OA Classic Messenger Bag — Rugged, Timeless, and Personal

The OA Classic Messenger Bag holds a special place in my heart. This design is based on one of the original bags that first inspired me to get into leatherwork — the piece that set everything in motion. The goal was to create something rugged, timeless, and built to last, staying true to traditional craftsmanship.

This messenger bag has a strong, structured look with no zippers or fabrics, ensuring maximum durability and longevity. The top lid flap is secured by straps that run directly through the leather, and those same straps continue all the way around the bag — creating a base for it to rest on when set down.

Recommended Leather & Hardware

For the body of the bag, I used 5–6oz regular temper leather, giving it a substantial and lasting structure. The strapping is 9–10oz, making it incredibly strong and reliable over years of use. Every piece of hardware is solid brass with an antique finish, adding both strength and a vintage feel that pairs perfectly with the design’s rugged aesthetic.

Design Insight

This bag is more than just a project — it’s a nod to the design that started my leatherworking journey. It represents a commitment to quality, to making things that are meant to last for decades, not years. The lack of unnecessary extras lets the material and construction speak for themselves.
